Maryvale Summer Recreation Program
The Maryvale School District Summer Recreation Program will hold its registration on Monday, July 7, 9:00 AM-12:00 Noon, and 1:00-3:00 PM, in the Community Education Building Front Entrance (777 Maryvale Dr.). The program will run from July 8 through August 15. Registration fees will be $10 for one child, $15 for two children and $20 for three or more children in a family. One fee will cover registration for all activities. The Summer Recreation program is open to all children residing in the Maryvale School District. All activities are geared for students K-8th grades, with high school students permitted to sign up for Art classes and lap swim for varsity swimmers.
Below is a tentative schedule of summer activities for 2008. All activities will be located on our main school campus located at 1050 Maryvale Drive. The actual classrooms, pool and fields for activities will be determined on registration day. For any further questions about Summer Recreation at Maryvale call 631-7460 and ask for Dan Conley.
SCHEDULE INFORMATION
A. All activities are organized on a Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday schedule. The use of Fridays in our program is optional and alternates between the two groupings.
B. Swimming, Soccer and Tennis will hold classes in the following routine:
During the classes between 9:00-11:00 AM each day, tennis and soccer instruction will be for beginners. Classes that run from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM will be for advanced learners.
C. Art Classes for grades K-8 will run on the hour from 9:00 AM-11:50 AM. Afternoon classes (12:00-12:50 PM, 1:00-1:50 PM) will be for grades 9-12.
D. Arts and Crafts will be structured in grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. Morning classes (9:00 AM-12:00 Noon) will be scheduled for grades K-5. Afternoon classes (12:00-12:50 PM, 1:00-1:50 PM) will be scheduled for grades 6-8.
This camp will open your eyes to the world of fashion and let you experience
first hand some of the cool things models do everyday. You will learn about the
different types of fashion, the importance of good posture, confidence, and
having a positive attitude. We will discuss and practice first hand techniques
to take care of our skin and make homemade facials. You will also be introduced
to the basics of runway modeling, photo posing, and an introduction to mannequin
modeling. Be ready to participate in a live photo shoot. We will end the camp
with a fashion show that stars you.

Are You America’s Next Top Model? (Ages 13-17)
Get ready to strut yourself and learn more about the world of fashion. You
will experience first hand some of the cool things models do everyday. You will
learn about fashion groups, the basics of skin care and make-up, make homemade
facials, the importance of good posture, confidence, and having a positive
attitude. You will be introduced to the basics of modeling on the runway, photo
posing and mannequin modeling. Be ready to participate in a photo shoot and in a
fashion show that we will put together.

This competitive camp is for BOYS entering the 5th through 9th grades as of fall 2008 and for GIRLS entering the 5th through 10th grades as of fall 2008. The camp will include all phases of the game, league play, individual contests and awards. Each camper will receive professional instruction, a camp certificate and a camp t-shirt. Hoopville Shooting Camp (Grades 5-College)
Join the Maryvale Boy’s Varsity Basketball Staff and guest coaches to learn
how to shoot, why you miss, and how to make the adjustments necessary to
improve. This camp includes pre/post shooting evaluation as well as shooting
instruction and drills. Participants will shoot at least 500 shots daily.

MARYVALE FOOTBALL CAMP (Ages 7-13)
This non-contact camp will include age/skill appropriate
instruction designed both to introduce and improve basic football skills. Each
session will include position specific instruction and a fun touch football game
in which the player can utilize the skills taught in a competitive situation.
The main idea of our camp is to introduce youngsters to the thrill of football
competition. Limit 50.

YOUTH SELF-DEFENSE & CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT (Ages 6-10)

Health’s FlexFit Family. This course will introduce the students to
Mandarin Kung Fu. The ccourse focus is on self-defense, discipline, manners and
respect. It will also provide students with a good physical workout using
traditional Kung Fu training.

is the direct disciple of Master Ting Fong Wong from Canton, China.
This camp will introduce the
new student to the basics of fencing: How to move, attack and defend using a
safety (foam) sword. Activities will include paired drills and fencing against
the instructor and assistants, as well as games to improve agility and eye-hand
coordination. Focus will be on correct form, footwork and having FUN! All
equipment is provided. Please wear sneakers and comfortable clothing for this
course. Registration deadline: 7/21 All fencers who pre-register and pre-pay
at least 30 days prior to the camp start date will receive a free fencing camp
t-shirt.

as well as judging bouts. Focus will be on correct form, footwork and the
fundamentals. All equipment is provided. Please wear sneakers and comfortable

Power Station Boys & Girls Volleyball Camp
This camp at Maryvale offers instruction and daily skills training in competitive volleyball, with opportunities to practice newly acquired skills in game situations.
