GED testing on the first day includes Math and Language Arts (Writing).  The second day tests are Social Studies, Science and Language Arts (Reading).
  Test Applications will be accepted at the center during office hours.  Faxed applications will not be accepted. Call 635-4666 for available test dates.

 

HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY

Adults who did not graduate from high school can prepare for the GED exam. An individualized study plan is designed for each student. Computers and textbooks are used to improve Reading, Math and Writing skills. A flexible schedule allows new students to enter the program at anytime during the year. ARE YOU READY FOR THE GED EXAM?

Before spending ten hours taking the GED exam, we offer you the chance to take a shorter practice test and see if you are ready for the exam. If you pass the practice test you can sign up for the next available exam. If not, you will find out exactly what you need to study to prepare for the exam. Helpful tips for passing the exam will also be discussed. You must be at least 18 years old, have dropped out of high school and be eligible to take the GED exam to attend. GED TAKE-OUT INFORMATION EVENING

Are you considering enrolling in the Home-Study GED Program. Join us for this information meeting. We will describe the program and have a question and answer session. Those who are interested can take the screening necessary to enroll in the program. This evening is free, but students must sign up in advance. You must be at least 21 years old to join the Home Study program.

GED TAKE-OUT

Adults, 21 and over, can prepare for the GED exam at home. To qualify for this free program you must have at least an 8th grade reading level and be able to study 6 hours per week. Individualized lesson plans and materials are picked up every two weeks at the Community Education Center office. Call 635-4672 for an appointment. Enroll anytime. NO FEE.

 

PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS

Maryvale Community Education announces a new partnership with Erie Community College to provide services to adults age 18 and over who are preparing to attend college. Free classes in basic math and reading skills, GED Preparation and English for Speakers of Other Languages will be offered at Maryvale locations to adults who need to brush-up before enrolling at Erie Community College. Students who successfully complete the Pathways to Success program can be quickly enrolled in degree programs at Erie Community College. Classes are offered in the daytime and the evenings. PRE-COLLEGIATE CLASSES
MARYVALE/ECC PATHWAYS PROGRAM

Is College in your Future? Do you want a job in a demand occupation? Do you need to brush up on math, reading, or writing? Are you lacking in basic computer skills? If so, Erie Community College and Maryvale Community Education will be offering Pre-Collegiate Studies. These courses are designed to be fun and help you develop the skills you need to be successful in college. The courses are tuition free and will help you save financial aid dollars. In addition, workshops will be offered on test-taking strategies, how to apply for financial aid and career exploration.  

To be eligible for classes you must have a high school diploma or have recently taken the GED exam. Hurry!!!! Class sizes are limited. To register or for more information please call Erie Community College at 851-1243.

 

ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL)

Maryvale offers a program for adults who have not yet learned to read or speak English and/or need to develop better skills. The class sessions will assist adults in vocabulary-building, conversation practice and understanding written English. Beginner and advanced students are welcome. New students can start anytime during the yearClasses will not meet 4/14-4/17 and 5/26.

This is for students testing no earlier than November 1, 2008. Don't miss out on the tips and practice sessions that will help you score your very best. This course will provide a thorough test overview of the verbal (reading comprehension, grammar and writing an essay) and math (algebra, geometry and number theory) sections. BEGINNER SIGN LANGUAGE

This course is designed to allow participants to achieve a comfortable understanding of and a willingness to communicate with the deaf. It will cover basic vocabulary, finger spellings and facial expressions. Being able to communicate with the deaf, understanding their culture and achieving a positive attitude toward deaf people are all goals of this course. Optional: The Joy of Signing is a book recommended by the instructor to assist students learning to use sign language. Limit 12.
